A History of the Shops in Kings Langley
in: General Gifts » Kings Langley History Society
Description
Updated in June 2009, a 40 page paperback of the history of the High Street in Kings Langley.
With the Queen's Golden Jubilee in 2002, the Society enthusiastically adopted the proposal to carry out a survey of the older shops in the High Street. The Parish Council generously supported the project with a grant to meet the costs of providing framed histories for the display in the shops. The Society's archivists, led by Alan Penwarden, produced over 25 potted histories, with many previously unpublished of the shops. The success of the individual histories led to a demand for the publication. The first edition of the book proved very popular and evoked many memories, as a result the book was then updated in October 2004. With the changes in the economic climate, lots of shops changed hands and another issue was publsihed in June 2009.
